The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) published the 49th Amendment to the IFRA Code of Practice. The 49th IFRA includes 25 new standards and now covers 214 substances. Additionally, there were also some alterations to the existing standards. The two major updates include:
- Implementation of a revised quantitative risk assessment called QRA2, which is used to determine safe use levels for fragrance ingredients in a variety of consumer product types.
- Implementation of systemic toxicity considerations
The new Amendment was published in 2019 and has been in force since 10 January 2020.
For all new fragrances, the deadline to comply with 49th IFRA Amendment is 10th February 2021 and for all existing fragrances, the deadline is 10th February 2022.
Please make sure to contact your fragrance suppliers and ensure that you comply with the latest IFRA standard.
